The Centre for International Health Protection (ZIG) of the Robert Koch Institute (RKI) seeks an experienced anthropologist. The RKI is the National Public Health Institute of Germany.

Responsibility: Team Lead Anthropology at ZIG Work hours full time (39 hours per week)
Remuneration: up to German Public Service level E14
Start date: as soon as possible
Duration: until December 2025

Tasks

Management and strategic development of RKI’s anthropological expertise in the field of global health with a focus on health emergency response
▪ Supporting global health emergency response with anthropological expertise (virtual and on-site) (10%)
▪ Developing and implementing anthropological studies in the field of global health with a focus on health emergency response (35%)
▪ Providing scientific guidance for the ongoing anthropological studies of ZIG, in particular supporting and mentoring our doctoral students (30%)
▪ Strategic expansion of RKI’s anthropological activities including acquisition of new projects (15%)
▪ National and international networking (10%)

Our requirements

Formal education requirements
▪ University education in a relevant field of social science, preferably medical anthropology, and
▪ PhD in anthropology or related subject, or equivalent experience Experience (obligatory)
▪ Experience in developing and implementing international projects
▪ Expertise and experience in anthropological research, including publication experience, especially in the thematic areas of global health, health system strengthening, health emergency response or One Health
▪ Experience in supervising and mentoring national and international students
▪ Experience in national and international networking

Experience (desirable)
▪ Experience in international health emergency response operations
▪ Work experience in African countries or with African partners, especially in SubSaharan Africa

Language skills
▪ English (C2 or higher)
▪ German (desirable)
▪ Other languages, in particular French (desirable)
